Climate Week NYC 2026: What It Means for Nature-based Solutions and Carbon Markets

As Climate Week NYC brings together global leaders across climate, nature and carbon markets, Nature+ Coalition follows the discussions shaping high-integrity nature-based solutions, climate finance and the future of carbon markets.

From 20 to 27 September, Climate Week NYC brings heads of state, business leaders and civil society to New York for what has become the world's largest annual gathering on climate action. Organised by Climate Group and held alongside the UN General Assembly, this year's edition runs under the banner “Energy. Impact. Action.”, with more than 1,000 events spanning twelve themes, from Energy and Electrification to Policy, Governance and Leadership.

Two of those themes, Nature, Land and Oceans and Finance and Clean Growth, cover the ground Nature+ Coalition works on: how nature-based solutions get financed, verified and scaled, and how carbon markets can be trusted to deliver real climate outcomes.

Sessions to watch

Several sessions this year speak directly to the questions that shape the CRCF, Article 6 and the EU ETS revision.

The Nature Hub, convened by the Nature4Climate coalition, dedicates its morning programme to mobilising finance for nature, forest finance and high-integrity carbon markets, and its afternoon to nature as critical infrastructure, including adaptation, resilience and the blue economy.

“Unlocking the Potential of REDD+: Aligning High-Integrity Credits with Article 6,” hosted by Funga at Verra's Nest Campus on 22 September, examines how randomised controlled trials and dynamic baselines can strengthen additionality claims for forest carbon projects, and how project-level credits align with Article 6 cooperation.

The Natural Climate Solutions Alliance (NCSA), convened by WBCSD, runs a series of sessions on what it takes to scale high-integrity nature markets, from long-term carbon removal strategies to the policy frameworks and technology needed to build confidence in nature-based carbon claims.

The Forest & Climate Leaders' Partnership (FCLP), one year after launching its Forest Finance Roadmap, brings governments, financial institutions and development partners together to assess progress toward mobilising the capital needed for forest protection, restoration and sustainable land use.

Why it matters for EU policy

Climate Week NYC does not set European policy, but the standards and finance commitments discussed there shape the wider signals EU regulators and carbon buyers respond to. Debates on what counts as a credible removal, or a legitimate Article 6 cooperation, sit close to the same questions being settled under the CRCF and the EU ETS revision. Nature+ Coalition will be following these discussions closely and bringing relevant insights into its work.

Our members on the ground

Several Nature+ Coalition members are attending Climate Week NYC 2026. President Stéphane Hallaire (reforestACTION) is participating in the Reforest the Future Summit, while Secretary General Mathilde Mignot (SE Advisory Services) and Treasurer Benjamin Camus (Evolution Markets) are following discussions on nature-based solutions, climate finance, carbon markets, Article 6 and carbon removals. Rebekah Braswell, member of the coalition, and CEO of Land Life, is also in New York, taking part in conversations on nature restoration, carbon removals, biodiversity and partnerships.

Their presence connects Nature+ Coalition’s European policy work with the broader international conversations shaping nature, climate finance and carbon markets.
