Nature+ Coalition delegation engages at COP30 in Belém
A delegation from the Nature+ Coalition attended COP30 in Belém, contributing to forest and Article 6 conversations and meeting with peer initiatives working on nature-based solutions.
The Nature+ Coalition was present at COP30 in Belém through a small delegation drawn from its member organisations. The conference, hosted in the Amazon basin, placed forest ecosystems and nature finance at the centre of the global climate agenda, and the coalition contributed to several conversations on these themes.
A forest-focused COP
The choice of Belém as host city symbolised the centrality of tropical forests in any credible mitigation pathway. The Nature+ Coalition's delegates participated in panel discussions hosted by partner networks, focusing on the operationalisation of Article 6.4, the integration of biodiversity co-benefits into forest methodologies, and the financing gap for nature-based solutions.
Conversations on Article 6 implementation
One of the recurring themes raised by the delegation in bilateral meetings was the need for the Article 6.4 Supervisory Body to advance forestry methodologies that align with the Core Carbon Principles. The coalition encouraged peers to focus advocacy on a small number of concrete improvements rather than a long catalogue of asks, in order to keep the negotiating pathway tractable.
Building relationships
Beyond the formal programme, the COP was an opportunity to develop relationships with project developers, jurisdictional REDD+ programmes, indigenous representatives and finance actors. The coalition's delegation will report back to the wider membership through an internal briefing and will share a public summary of the main policy takeaways in the coming weeks.
Next steps
The coalition will use the COP30 momentum to accelerate work on its position paper on Article 6.4 biodiversity co-benefits and to convene a working group on Paris-aligned forest finance in early 2026.
